Branding a Manchester band

The Manyanas, a local band in the Manchester music scene, recently embarked on a project to launch their first E.P. However, before doing so, they needed to establish a visual identity through branding in Manchester. In today’s music industry, branding plays a crucial role in a band’s success, especially in a competitive city like Manchester. A well-crafted brand can help a band stand out, attract fans and even secure gigs and partnerships.

To ensure the branding reflected the band’s collective vision, all five members contributed their ideas and inspirations by creating a scrapbook of visual styles.

With this information, the branding team presented several logo designs, ultimately selecting one that encapsulated the band’s “Mañana” attitude with a sunrise burst, inspired by the 1960s and 1970s Mowtown music scene.

To bring the branding to life, a photoshoot was carried out at an old disused railway station in Radcliffe, Manchester, with art direction by a local photographer, Mike Black, who has ample experience in branding in Manchester’s music industry. Once the favourite photos were chosen, the design was rolled out to various materials, including posters, bus stop advertising, pin badges, teaser flyers, postcards, and the CD body and sleeve design.

Overall, the project was a testament to the power of branding in Manchester and how it can elevate a local band’s profile in the music scene. Branding can help a band achieve their goals and stand out in a competitive market. With the right branding strategy, a band can establish a loyal fanbase, secure more gigs and ultimately, achieve long-term success in the music industry.
